  1. This is really advanced for me, but it was VERY interesting Elijah! I never heard of tritone substiutions before. I will need to study the lesson more before I am ready to try this concept myself.

I also really like the sound of coming back to the Am7 after the A#M7, before going to the DM7.

I would love to learn more about why you voice the chords the way you do. Is it purely artistic choices, or are there reasons some of the chords are 7 chords and others are 9 chords etc?

    • Hey Adam,

Yes in most cases voicing is purely artistic especially for chords exceeding the 7th like 9,11 and 13.
It will be hard to explain it clearly and fully in a comment section but just know that you have the freedom to do anything in music but you simply have to make sure that your artistic choices are making sense like serving a melody line, using tritone substitions like it is the case here, etc.

We’re here if you have any other questions 🙂

      Kind regards,

  2. Thank you Elijah! I watched part 2 where you discuss the role of voiceleading in the chord progression. So interesting. I’m starting to realise all the stuff I need to be paying more attention to. Thanks again for these great tutorials.
